Privacy Policy
Dual Subtitles for YouTube is an extension for Chromium-based browsers that displays dual subtitles on YouTube: the original subtitle text and a translation into the language selected by the user. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how that data is used.
Data Handled by the Extension
The extension handles only the data needed for its core functionality:
- the text of YouTube subtitles shown on the currently opened video;
- individual words and a short subtitle fragment around a word when the user opens a dictionary tooltip;
- local extension settings, including enabled/disabled state, translation language, font size, and background opacity.
The extension does not collect names, email addresses, payment data, medical data, passwords, personal communications, or precise user location.
How Data Is Used
Data is used only for the following features:
- generating subtitle translations;
- displaying dictionary tooltips for words;
- applying the user's subtitle display settings;
- updating settings on already opened YouTube tabs.
Data Sharing with Third Parties
To provide translations, the extension may send subtitle text, individual words, and short contextual phrases to translation services:
- Google Translate API:
https://translate.googleapis.com/ - Yandex Translate API:
https://translate.yandex.net/
This transfer is necessary for the extension's core functionality: showing translations and dictionary tooltips. The extension does not share data with advertising networks, data brokers, or other third parties for marketing, analytics, or data sale purposes.
Data Storage
User settings are stored locally in the browser using chrome.storage.local.
Translations and dictionary responses may be temporarily cached in extension memory to
improve performance, but they are not sent to a developer-operated server. The extension
does not operate its own server-side storage for user data.
Security
Requests to translation services are made over HTTPS. The extension does not execute remotely hosted JavaScript or Wasm code; all executable code is included in the extension package.
Limited Use of Data
The extension's use of user data is limited to providing and improving its core functionality. The extension does not sell user data and does not use it for personalized advertising, retargeting, credit-worthiness evaluation, or lending purposes. The use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Data Deletion
Users can delete locally stored settings by removing the extension from the browser or clearing the extension's data in the browser settings.
